Line-of-sight Pedestrian Microsimulation in Urban Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
In order to move away from more formal route-choice models and to avoid calibration issues, visually guided agent-based models have recently been introduced to microscopic urban models of pedestrian behavior. Although the new models produce good correlation between the agents and observed pedestrian movement, there are two problems with them. Firstly, the implementations have lacked an origin-destination matrix, and so the models work best in situations where undirected exploratory movement is likely to occur. Secondly, the models rely on precalculated visibility graphs to store visual data from locations within the system; these graphs use a large amount of computer memory. Here we show that a line of sight model using reduced visual information compares well with the destination selection method, and further, that the addition of a simple origin-destination matrix can lead to better agent correlation with pedestrian movement.

Evolving Direct Perception Models of Human Behavior in Building Systems
Software agents that use direct (or active) perception of the environment have recently been shown to correspond well with pedestrian movement within building and urban systems. The algorithm, based on Gibson’s theory of affordances, combines random selection of destination from their field of view with reassessment of the destination every few steps. However, although the agents correlate with...
متن کاملModelling Pedestrian Circulation in Rail Transit Stations Using Micro-Simulation
Rail transit with its high passenger capacity and high efficiency has become one of the preferred alternatives to automobile travel. This is evident in the increasing patronage of rail travel especially in urban areas. As a result, many railway stations experience high levels of pedestrian congestion especially during the morning and afternoon peak periods. Traditional design and evaluation pro...

There is now increasing emphasis on managing the urban transport for the benefit of all road users, particularly on the promotion of walking and cycling as more environmentally friendly modes of transport. Dynamic traffic signal controls in respond to pedestrian demand have been developed which give the flexibility and control to the network controllers to manage pedestrian and vehicle interact...

ABSTRACT A vibrant and commercially active center is often the result of interesting, diverse building styles and or built-forms, pedestrian density along with variety of quality public places where people feel comfortable, spending time and shopping items for domestic and commercial functions in cities like Addis Ababa. The scale and design of buildings, pedestrian density, and other phy...
متن کاملA Study of Pedestrian Movement on Crosswalks Based on Chaos Theory
Walking, as an important transportation mode, plays a large part in urban transportation systems. This mode is of great importance for planners and decision-makers because of its impact on environmental and health aspects of communities. However, this mode is so complex in nature that makes it difficult to study or model. On the other hand, chaos theory studies complex dynamical nonlinear syste...
